Kogi Dep. Gov. lauds FG for managing release of water from dams

WADA, KOGI GOVERNOR ELECT
The Kogi Deputy Governor, Mr  Yomi Awoniyi, on Friday commended the Federal Government for managing the release of water from the dams in the country.
Awoniyi gave the commendation when he met with the State Food Management Committee in Lokoja.
According to him, the gradual release of water from the dams has reduced the incidents of flooding in the state this year.
He also commended officials of the Federal  Ministries of Water Resources and Environment for managing the situation.

The deputy governor said the state observed that the water level at present was much lower than what it was in 2012.
He expressed appreciation to the Almighty God because ``while the state is expecting the best, it is also planning for the worst’’.
Awoniyi said that some states like Kaduna and Kebbi were already experiencing flood disasters.
He said this had prompted, Gov. Idris Wada, to direct the committee to submit estimates for camp construction, purchase of relief materials and provision of boreholes in the proposed camps.
The deputy governor said the state government would assist the marine police to repair their boats for use during the impending flood.
He appealed to the people living in flood planes to relocate to higher grounds.
Awoniyi said such people should not ignore the warning as they did in 2012 which resulted in the loss of lives and property.
